Do you want to be successful? Do you want to do great things with your life? Do you want your life to count and make a difference? If so, you are going to have to take responsibility for every facet of your life. Taking responsibility for yourself isn’t easy in the modern world. We have been conditioned to believe every external circumstance and every other person is the cause for the parts of our lives that we don’t like. People now focus more on their rights than their responsibilities.
If there is anything the Bible teaches us it is personal responsibility and accountability. Each person is responsible for what he or she does with their lives. They are responsible for their choices and the outcome of those choices. He or she alone is responsible for the quality of his life, current relationships, lifestyle and behavior. In accepting total responsibility for yourself, you must give attention to every aspect of your life that is important to you.
Those people want to see changes in their lives. They want to grow. They want to learn. They want to win battles that they have been losing in the past. But you cannot change what you are not responsible for. As long as the fault for your problem lies with someone else, you can’t do anything to change those problems. The person with the power to change something is the person with the authority and responsibility to change it. Accept the responsibility for the things that you want to change. People who are overcomers recognize the outcome of their lives is in their own hands. Nobody can make his life better if he or she isn’t willing to take responsibility.
Taking responsibility for your life is a personal choice that you and you alone can make. When you accept the premise that there is nothing that you can do about your plight in life, you become chained to the life you have. You become a prisoner to your circumstances. Your life can begin to turnaround when you realize your choices and decisions put you in your current situation. Therefore your choices and decisions can turn things around. Your choices and decisions created the past, and they can create a new future.
If you are like most people you have a million good “reasons” why you can’t be great or why you can’t do great things in your life. If this is the case, you have hidden behind those reasons far too long. The battle begins in your own mind with the things that you tell yourself now. The number one cause that most people don’t achieve their potential in life is their unwillingness to realistically confront the future. They believe that their future will be controlled by the government, by big business, the economy, or sheer luck. Your future is controlled by you and you alone. You are completely and solely responsible for everything you are and everything that you may become.
God said, “Your task is to build a better world.” And I answered, “How? The world is such a large, vast place and so complicated now. And I am so small and useless;there is nothing that I can do.” But God in all his wisdom said, “Just build a better you.”Isn’t it time to take responsibility for your own life and begin to make things happen! You will be amazed at what God can do in and through you.
See you Sunday in church!
