On Persistence.

perseverance

Persistence is one of the most common qualities of great achievers. Great achievers often achieve great things simply because they refuse to give up. When all things are equal, persistence usually will cause one person to rise above the rest. As the others give up and quit the race, one by one, the person who simply refuses to go away ultimately will prevail. The person will be the one who takes home the first place trophy. Success often comes not through skill, ability, or ingenuity, but old fashion stickability.

As you begin a new year, no matter how much you have planned or spent time prayerfully setting your goals, things are going to happen along the way that you never could have envisioned which will throw you off stride. Difficulties, distractions, and delays will get in your way. In the end, you must meet the challenge to stick with it, no matter how hard it gets, and no matter how long it takes.

Knowing in advance you will have difficult days as you climb to the top, reminds you that you must refuse to give up. It is always too soon to quit. The apostle Paul went through beatings, imprisonment, arrests, loneliness, persecution, rejection, and a whole host of other things that could have caused him to give up. But Paul refused to give up. He became one of the greatest leaders of the early church. At the end of his life, when his work and journey was complete Paul told his young protégé Timothy, “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith.” (II Timothy 4:7) Paul personally knew the value and benefit of persistence.

Persistence is one of the key traits that separate those who just get by from those who are amazing! Those who do remarkable things with their lives just stick around longer than anyone else and wait for the competition to give up. They know that persistence is a habit, a quality of self-discipline. “Fall down seven times, get up eight.” The key to long term success is to keep getting back on your feet and keep moving forward. If you can do that, you will be amazed at how far God will take you. Persistent people know quitting is just a permanent solution to a temporary problem because the person who is down can get back up, but someone who quits will never take a step forward.

The power of perseverance is one of the most powerful concepts on earth. It distinguishes the great from the not so good. It will make all the difference in your life. Where you are today and where you hope to be in the future will largely be determined by tapping into this wonderful power of perseverance. It will work miracles in your life so you in turn can work miracles in the lives of others.

See you Sunday in church!
